Class/y inspiration

There are quite a few of you out there who’d like to attend clearing classes but can’t be there for various reasons (often geographical – but hey you could make it happen: just organise to host one of my classes where you are!) So I thought I’d share some of the brilliant insights of class members right here, for all of you to enjoy.

Last night we heard amazing stories again. One woman, let’s call her Sue (all names are changed) told us about how she’d been looking for an umbrella stand for (what felt like) years. She kept looking but couldn’t find anything she liked. Until one fine day it dawned on her: “I don’t need an umbrella stand in the first place! Two thirds of the umbrellas I own are ghastly anyway, so why keep them?!” Instead of purchasing an additional item for things she didn’t use or love anyway, she decided to get rid of most of the brollies knocking around in the hallway (quite literally, as they had the annoying habit of falling over with a loud thump). Now the unwanted umbrellas have found new homes – and the home feels like new: freeflowing energy coming in and going out of the house! The story is such a great example of how we often don’t see the wood for the trees (or rather: clutter) kidding ourselves into thinking how we need yet another storage item – when really we don’t want to have those things in our life in the first place!

Another class member reported how the insights and changes in attitude she had gained in class inspired her husband into a big clearout! Nagging never works, only your own bright sparkling example.

And here’s one of my all time favourite inspiring stories. A long term member decided one day to get serious about what we’d been discussing in class for quite a while: how one of the most pleasurable ways of clutter clearing is to start using the unused things that we have stashed away somewhere because they are allegedly ‘too nice’ for everyday use. So she decided to get radical and take the wonderful set of crockery out of the dresser where it collected dust all year, forever waiting for that ‘special occasion’. She got rid of all chipped mugs and odd plates and made space for the queen of dining sets. Now she treats herself to eating from decent china every single day. How amazingly sane is that!

Now get up and go and dig out that ‘nice’ dress and wear it to the supermarket!! That is clutter clearing. Honestly. – So much fun!

It’s all about stopping to waste the potential joy/s we could easily experience but don’t allow ourselves to.

Happy clearing!
